About Eight Seconds of Froth

Our competition is the second oldest on the front range, and one of the oldest in the United States. In 2018, we over 370 entries from over 200 entrants throughout the United States. We typically employ a volunteer staff of 40-50 judges and stewards to ensure every beer is fairly judged and handled during our competition.

New to homebrew competitions? Learn how to prepare your beer, cider or mead for competition entry.

Why Should I Enter? Aside from the accolades you can receive from your homebrewing peers, competitions exist primarily as a way to gain unbiased feedback on your beer.

How is My Beer Judged? Each entry is judged by at least one BJCP certified judge and will receive feedback from a pair of judges assigned to your entry’s category. Certified judges are educated in sensory perception and tested on their perceptive ability and knowledge of beer styles and brewing process.

 Pro-Am Selection:

This year we are proud  to announce that we have three brewers working with us to select a Pro-Am!  They will be picking a beer to brew for the GABF Pro-Am from the first place beers.  For your beer to be selected for the Pro-Am you must be an AHA member.

Last year, we had over 320 entries and we’re hoping for a repeat this year.  So enter early and often.

Here are some pictures of the past years trophies.  In addition to the Best of Show Trophy we are awarding a trophy for the highest scored beer entered by a Wyoming brewer.

Homebrew clubs are awarded points for total number of entries and judges, and for all top three finishes by their members in each category and BOS. Winning club receives a travelling trophy plus other goodies. The winning club keeps the trophy for the year and then returns it at next year’s Dredhop to be made ready for the upcoming Eight Seconds of Froth and Ace of Clubs competitions.
